Easter Egg Hunt
(I just now realized that Blogger has eaten all my text on the past few posts. And I had so many happy things written down and now I can't remember much of what I said.)
*SIGH*
I do remember that Ziggy was the one pushing his ol' Ma and Pa to do an egg hunt in the back yard this year. In our geezer-like ways, we had tried to convince the boys to hide and then hunt for the empty eggs themselves, but that was no good, no good at all. The Zig put on his best puppy dog eyes and asked for stuffed eggs, hid by the Kill-Joys themselves.
So, that's what we did, and who knew? We all had such a happy, fun time on a happy sunshiny day.

Easter Dinner
Ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, rolls, and an old bottle of sparkling cider left over from Christmas. Happy holidays!

The Suz And Her Basket
Some people are "baby people," and they get all slobbery and sentimental over holding a newborn. (*gag*) But me? I get into this:
The Squishy Squatty Toddler.
I dare you to find something cuter:
I dare you to find something cuter:
And although Pa goes on and on about his handsomeness (*cough*), even he couldn't have produced something as darling as this:
As an aside, she loved getting coins and has spent many a day dumping and filling her piggy bank with her stash. What a treasure.

A Tisket, A Tasket
Because we are a family that values creativity and original ideas, we hid the Easter baskets from the kids and made them look for them.
What?
You do that too?
Well anyway. We have learned at least one or two things on this journey called "parenthood," so we hid just one basket at a time and let just one kid search at a time.
BECAUSE WHY?
Because we don't like the pushing shoving crying stealing whining competing that comes with the chaos of three kids scrambling through the house in search of some sugar.
Yes.
So Campers got to go first, because that is "fair," whatever that means to a seven-year-old boy. Mostly "fair" means "whatever is in HIS best interest."
Oh, I am getting off track.
Here he is with his loot:
And then his brother was next in line:
Followed by the Suz, who really had no idea what was going on.
But, with enough barking encouragement from the crowd, she found her basket of treats as well.
(More about her a little bit later.)
("Is she STILL talking about EASTER?")
(Yep, all week.)

Because Using A Real Butter Dish Would Have Not Fit The Theme
Some years, Easter dinner consists of ham cooked in the crock pot, canned green beans, and biscuits.
And that's it.

I tell you these things so you'll like me.
(It's not working.)
(Okay, so I'll just work hard at exposing our Weird.)
Pa and I have this odd tradition that before we sit down to eat a holiday meal, we have to photograph the event.
And I think I can safely say that THAT tradition did NOT come from MY side of the family. When *we* see food; we eat it. Not photograph it.
But I digress.
Pa has his own tradition in that when I take a picture of him, he has to act like a dork:

That's so! Not me!
(*cough*)
Okay, okay. I'll fess up to my fancy contribution to the Easter meal: The Butter Dish That Happens To Look A Lot Like The Wrapper.
See?
Now all of your mealtime adventures seem fancy and refined in comparison.
Anyone have anything tasty for Easter dinner?
And that's it.

In Which I Talk About Fat, Resurrection Eggs, And The Suz
Just the other day, I saw one of my friends ("friends") that I hadn't seen since last summer. My first thought upon greeting her at the park was, "My. She's put on a few pounds."
And I have no doubt she thought the same thing about me.
However, I eventually found out that she's pregnant. Six months pregnant, as a matter of fact.
And she looked exactly like me!
I feel a great deal of hate! Aimed at me!
There. I got that out of my system. Let's move on.

So, we actually got around to talking through the resurrection eggs before Easter came and went! Miracles are all part of the Easter season, aren't they?
The boys are getting old enough to know all the right answers, and to read along, and to make sense of the Easter story. That makes me happy.

Side note: Please send pajamas, size 5/6. It appears my son has no clothing to wear.
In other new, Suz spent the whole "resurrection egg exercise" looking up passages in her Bible:

Or, the photography magazine, whatever.
She was with us in spirit, I'm sure of it. I'm just amazed she was sitting still.
If you're bored, you can see what we looked like one year ago, doing the very same thing. I was skinnier. But Suz was not. The end.

It's Like We Dyed
The kids colored their skin their clothes every square inch of the kitchen some eggs again this year. (See 2008.) We tried the "tie dyed" style, just for kicks. First, some colored stuff got squirted on the eggs:
And then the whole egg got stuck in a bag and squished around:
And if you're wondering where the Suz was during all this mess fun, you can spot her tied up in the Back Forty:

Oh, It's Just One Of My Obsessions. That's All.
One of my favorite mental games to play (and there are many!) is to ask myself these questions...
"What were we doing yesterday?"
"What were we doing one week ago today?"
"What were we doing one year ago around this time?"
And since I have a bad memory, this game can get to be a bit obsessive.
I've learned to stop askin' the Pa to provide the answers to these questions. I can take only so much of the "Crazy Lady" look.
Which is totally deserved, of course.
So Easter. One year ago. Look at my babes:
Especially the little one, who was still "new" to us. Not even sitting up (or eating chocolate).
But here they all are now, the boys standing tall and proud, and Sister Susie making a run for it.

Oh, You Know. Easter Candy.
I realized there were several Easter shots that I hadn't bored you with shown you yet.
There's nothing like a search for sugar and artificial food coloring to really perk up the Easter parade:
Ooo! Ooo! Let's see what's inside!!

You didn't think I'd transformed into a FUN Ma overnight, did you?
(I am still snickering over the pumpkin shirt appearing in the Easter pics. That ought to be fun to scrapbook.)
