Flashback February: Day 6, Part 2

(One year ago this month, Pa and I made the trek to China to adopt our sweet Sister Susie. I am going to take the first seventeen days of February 2008 to revisit that trip. Hop in for the ride!)

Well, if you're gonna eat, you might as well have some entertainment to go along with it.

(As if chopsticks, mystery meat, and jiggling a baby at the table are not entertainment enough.)

So we headed out to the "Yunnan Families Restaurant," where we were served food unique to the province (Yunnan) we were in, as well as given a full show of the customs of the minority groups living in that region.

Of course, the whole show was narrated in Mandarin Chinese, so we hadn't a clue what was being said, but it was LOUD, and it was ENTERTAINING.

Singing...dancing...men carrying women like a sack of potatoes--we loved it:

And that gal in the lower right hand photo (of the above collage) represents a minority group that our Suz is most likely a part of.

Lovely, eh?

And boringly enough, in the past year I have been told a number of times that our Susie doesn't "look Chinese." Well, she IS Chinese, but she is not Han Chinese (the largest ethnic group)--what most people think of when they picture someone who is "Chinese."

And now that our ethnicity class is over, we'll move right on to table manners:

Or lack thereof. I am two-fistin' it, folks!

And just how exactly is one supposed to eat soup with chopsticks?!?!?

But look at this food! The quantity! The beauty! The complete and utter void of knowing what any of it was!

And let's hear it for the truly adventuresome--my pal eating a whole fish:

And after we were sufficiently coated with food (because eating soup with chopsticks does that to ya), we headed back to the quiet, boring hotel.

Another day was ahead.
